Congregation Beth Evergreen, will be hosting an event with Rose Garden writer, Joanne Greenberg on May 21st, 2025. Ms. Greenberg will be discussing one of her most recent books, On the Run, a memoir of her time on the Lookout Mountain Fire Department and Idledale Rescue Team. The event is free, and you can See Joanne Greenberg Live.
If you are a member of a book group and would be interested in attending, you can contact Ginny or Janet at [email protected] or [email protected]. The event is not limited to book clubs. In fact, everyone is welcome.

“I got to learn my district very well, and to know the families who lived there. In some places there was a sense that there would be no help if an accident or injury occurred.” Joanne told me. She went on to say, “Every area has its specialty in rescue. Where there are lakes and rivers water rescue is essential. On the ski slopes, the alpine variety. Because of the Interstate, our specialty was auto wrecks. When the state closes the Lariat Trail at night, for example, half of the rescue runs that we did will be unnecessary.”
Joanne was part of the crew that did the emergency medicine at a Stones concert at Folsom Field in Boulder. She was also at Red Rocks Park for a Dead concert. She played the role of a victim in the EMT final exam, for two years. She would have to mimic a number of different accident injuries.
To hear these stories and more, about Joanne’s amazing time on the Rescue team, don’t miss this live event. The event is free. All are welcome, and Stephen Koenigsberg will be on hand with hard copies of the book. Or, you can always order online. Again, See Joanne Greenberg Live on May 21st at Temple Beth Evergreen.
