Joanne Greenberg just celebrated her 92nd birthday on Sept. 24th. She said it was one of the best birthdays she’s ever had. One of her acts of celebration was going for a motorcycle ride with her Rabbi. Imagine cruising down one of those twelve-percent-grade Colorado switchbacks on a motorcycle at 92 years old. Another celebration is to speak at the upcoming Idaho Springs Literary Festival. She will be hosting six events at the festival two days this week. She will be featured along with fifteen other authors.

A roller skater’s dream, the Lariat trail features a narrow 2-lane switchback with 12 – 18% grades.

The Friends of the Idaho Springs Public Library, a 5013c corporation, sponsor the event, which Lisa Manifold coordinates. The Idaho Springs Literary Festival is a chance to celebrate a birthday with the author of I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, In This Sign, The Far Side of Victory, On the Run, Miri Who Charms, and many others. Books by Joanne and the other featured authors will be on sale at the Festival bookstore.

The Friends of the Idaho Springs Public Library raises funds that support library programs. One of the library’s unique offerings is The Library of Things. This is a collection of electronics, mobile hot spots, backpacks for state parks, season passes to our local ski resort, crock pots, instant pots, hot pots, bread makers, and telescopes, among other things. The idea is to allow residents the opportunity to try out items they might be interested in without the risk of purchasing beforehand.
